Erykah Badu: Styling Fashion Week

I almost died this morning when I found out Erykah Badu, the king of all things fashion and music was going to be styling for NY Fashion Week. Sir Badu, as I like to call her, is hooking up with Kerby Jean-Raymond to style his label Pyer Moss for the AW16 show Feb 13. I was even more intrigued when I found out the show would be set to explore the black experience in America.

Dazed and Confused quotes Badu as saying ““(Kerby and I) were a match made in fashion heaven.” “We share an eye for truth through art. Though risky at times, he stands in his truth. And the strength of that truth lies in the belief of his vision. I’m inspired by the bold statements he makes in this, sometimes, fickle industry.”

Last year Jean-Raymond brought black lives matter to the stage using blood splattered boots on his models and Eric Garner’s last words ” I can’t breathe” on his clothes.

Beyond the activism the Pyer Moss label has also, just like Erykah Badu, been very cutting edge when it comes to gender non-conformity in clothing. Jumpsuits, neck coverings and combat boots in the SS16 show are just a few things that prove this show is going to be beyond amazing. Stay Tuned.
