At Boi Society, we truly believe that telling ones story is part of the path to  liberation.  Everyone on this planet is different and Audre Lorde believed the world’s unity would come through the celebration of those differences.

The People Project, does exactly that. 22, Year Old, Bria Davis, grew up in Houston, TX in a place known to many as the 3rd ward. Bria states, “At first glance, one may assume the community is nothing more than impoverished landscape permeated with high crime rates, government housing, and underprivileged environmental conditions. But for me, my neighborhood represents an astounding paradigm of perseverance, culture, human empowerment, and untainted stories yearning to be told.

It was this  perspective that lead Bria to walk the streets of her neighborhood engaging real people to share their real stories.  “I believe that everyone has  a purpose and we all deserve a chance to speak about our experiences” she says.

The People’s Project’s vision is to document the day-to-day reality of everyday people and provide a voice for individuals to inspire others through their truth. We ground ourselves in providing a voice to the voiceless in lieu of advocating a system of unity through shared similarities and respected differences. The mission has managed to diminish the separation between rich and poor, black and white; and places everyone in a position to matter.

We speak. And we make them listen document the day-to-day reality of everyday people and provide a voice for individuals to inspire others through their truth. We ground ourselves in providing a voice to the voiceless in lieu of advocating a system of unity through shared similarities and respected differences. The mission has managed to diminish the separation between rich and poor, black and white; and places everyone in a position to matter.

We speak. And we make them listen.

“This moment is a form of freedom because it’s about love …freedom to love. For once we can be free and love who we want. It validates who I am as a person, who I’ve always been as a person. Since I was a little girl I’ve always felt different, I knew I was different, and I was treated different. Now I feel like a human being. It doesn’t matter who I sleep with, it doesn’t matter who I love… because people are people.”
